Family and sweet terpene profile

In cannabis (genus Cannabis, family Cannabaceae), inflorescence aroma is driven by terpenes and other volatiles in glandular trichomes. Sweet, candy-like and fruity profiles often come from myrcene, limonene and terpinolene; earthy and spicy notes from caryophyllene. The blend of bubble gum, berries and light florals is the result of decades of breeding for a recognisable scent.

Founding line: Indiana Bubble Gum

The Bubble Gum cultivar (Indiana Bubble Gum) emerged in the late 1980s in the American Midwest (Indiana). Local growers selected for sweetness, heavy resin and a pleasant effect. A clone reached New England and then the Netherlands, where seed lines were stabilised and went on to win major European cannabis cups. Exact lineage was never documented; morphology (broad leaves, dense trichomes) points to strong Afghan indica influence.

Pink Bubble Gum: cultivar and breeding

Pink Bubble Gum was bred by Moscaseeds from Indiana Bubble Gum × Pink 2.0. From the «bubble gum» parent it inherited the sweet terpene profile and indica-dominant growth; Pink 2.0 added pink tones to the pistils and, in many descriptions, berry and strawberry notes. Flowers are dense, leaves broad; trichomes are abundant and turn milky when ripe. Flowering in cultivation is around 56–63 days.

Terpenes, morphology and effect

The terpene profile is dominated by myrcene, caryophyllene and limonene; terpinolene and ocimene add nutty and floral touches. When rubbed or consumed, the aroma is sweet bubble gum, strawberry, earth and light spice. THC is typically 15–23% depending on phenotype. Effect is an initial lift followed by pronounced body relaxation (indica dominance). In the botanical collection Pink Bubble Gum is presented as a descendant of the award-winning Indiana Bubble Gum line and an example of a cultivar with a recognisable «candy» aroma.
