In a significant crackdown, French authorities seized 4,000 cannabis plants valued at approximately 1,100 kilos from a large-scale indoor cultivation site near Grenoble. The operation, involving French and Albanian nationals, was uncovered in the village of Morette, following an extensive eight-month investigation. This raid highlights the ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug trafficking in the region
According to the public prosecutor's office, the investigation began in late October 2022, when police received intelligence about potential illegal activities in a warehouse. The subsequent probe revealed a sophisticated cannabis growing operation, leading to the arrest of six individuals. Among those detained were four Albanians, aged 18 to 35, a 52-year-old Grenoble resident, and the 55-year-old owner of the warehouse
The seized operation included two complexes, one housing over 1,550 plants and the other containing 2,500 plants, with a total estimated resale value of €10-15 million. Two Albanian workers received prison sentences of 7 and 10 months and were banned from France for five years. The remaining suspects are awaiting sentencing, scheduled for 9 August. This seizure follows a similar large-scale operation in the UK, underscoring the international scope of cannabis trafficking operations
