A new international association is forming to advocate for the global hemp industry, uniting organizations worldwide to address key industry challenges and promote sustainable growth. This initiative aims to represent hemp stakeholders at major intergovernmental agencies and work toward removing hemp and its extracts from the UN's 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs

Daniel Kruse, president of the European Industrial Hemp Association, emphasized the association's goal to collaborate with entities like the World Health Organization and the United Nations' Commission on Narcotic Drugs. The group will also engage with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and the Food and Agriculture Organization on issues related to the Codex Alimentarius, which sets international food safety standards

The association will tackle environmental concerns and represent the hemp industry to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. According to a launch document, the organization aims to benefit all stakeholders across the hemp value chain by fostering a robust and diversified industry

Key figures like Ted Haney of the Canadian Hemp Trade Alliance and Lorenzo Rolim da Silva of the Latin-American Industrial Hemp Association have expressed their support. They highlight the need for a unified voice in the industry to address various challenges, including climate change mitigation and sustainable development

The initiative plans to establish a technical association to publish an international hemp research journal and create a peer-review network. This will address the current lack of comprehensive research compilation on hemp's applications. Representatives from numerous national associations across the globe, including the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America, are involved in this effort

The new association seeks to create a collaborative platform for industry players to share information, advocate for regulatory changes, and co-create solutions. With the backing of experienced professionals, the organization aims to integrate hemp into various industries and promote its benefits on a global scale
