Kentucky's inaugural medical cannabis dispensary, The Post, sold its entire inventory within a week of opening, highlighting significant demand and limited supply in the new market. The dispensary, located in Beaver Dam, opened its doors on December 13 and had to temporarily close by December 20 due to depleted stock, according to owner Trip Hoffman
The launch attracted long lines of eager patients, some arriving as early as 5 a.m. with camping gear in tow. Approximately 400 people turned up, but only about 250 with valid Kentucky medical cannabis cards were able to make purchases due to state regulations. In an effort to manage the limited supply, Hoffman imposed strict purchase limits of one unit per person, yet the dispensary still sold out quickly
The rapid sellout was attributed to the initial limited harvests from local cultivators, as required by Kentucky law. Hoffman, who works closely with suppliers like Farmtucky and Dark Horse, anticipates new stock between January 15 and 20, aiming to reopen shortly after. Meanwhile, the closure allowed for operational refinements and gave staff a break during the holiday season
