A cannabis shop in Khon Kaen, Thailand, is under scrutiny after authorities discovered it was selling cannabis to minors and operating without a license. The shop, named Yan Kan, was found to be a hub for underage consumption, with teenagers as young as 13 using cannabis and kratom-infused drinks on the premises

The investigation, led by the local health and police departments, revealed a concerning scene. Upon entering the establishment, officers were met with the overpowering smell of cannabis. Inside, children were found in a state of intoxication, surrounded by cannabis paraphernalia. The shop also housed a significant quantity of cannabis products and kratom drinks, raising further alarms

Nong Aey, a 16-year-old girl, was identified as the person managing the shop in the owner’s absence. She claimed to have been hired by a man known only as Mr. Name, who paid her 300 baht daily. The clientele mostly comprised local teenagers and students. This employment situation has prompted further investigation into potential child labor violations

Law enforcement officials have taken decisive action by confiscating the illegal substances and coordinating with child protection services. The minors involved were taken into protective custody, and their parents were notified. The authorities are also exploring legal actions against the shop owner for selling cannabis without a license and employing underage workers

The owner of the premises, who rents out the space, reportedly had no knowledge of the illegal activities taking place. The police are actively searching for the shop owner and have plans to propose the closure of the shop to the district chief. This case highlights ongoing challenges in regulating cannabis sales and ensuring compliance with the law in Thailand
