- 4Certified retailer staff handle deliveries, not Uber drivers
- 5Follows successful cannabis delivery rollout in Ontario
Uber Eats has launched a cannabis delivery service in partnership with Leafly, allowing residents of Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia, to order marijuana through the app. This service is available to residents over the age of 19 and involves local licensed retailers delivering the products directly to customers. The initiative marks a significant step in integrating cannabis into mainstream delivery platforms
The service, however, excludes Uber's delivery workers from handling cannabis. Instead, certified staff from the participating cannabis retailers are responsible for delivering the orders. They will also ensure compliance with local regulations by verifying the age and sobriety of customers upon delivery. Currently, thirteen retailers in Vancouver and Victoria are participating in this program, with no immediate plans to expand to other cities within British Columbia
This launch follows Uber's previous collaboration with Leafly in Ontario, which began six months ago, making it the first major third-party platform to offer cannabis delivery worldwide. Aaron Sinnathamby, CEO of ARCannabis, one of the participating retailers, emphasized the importance of customer service and adherence to regulations in this new venture. The initiative highlights the growing acceptance and normalization of cannabis sales through established delivery services
