The International School Bangkok (ISB) marked its 75th anniversary with a special charity concert, "Harmony for Hope," held over the weekend. The event was designed to raise funds that will enable 75 Thai students, currently supported by the iCare Thailand Foundation, to complete their four-year high school diplomas. Many of these students face the risk of dropping out due to financial difficulties, highlighting the importance of the initiative
The concert featured performances from The Harvard Krokodiloes, Harvard University's renowned a cappella group, and popular Thai entertainer Lydia Sarunrat Deane, drawing a diverse audience. According to Debi Caskey, acting head of school at ISB, "We recognise the value of education and learning and so Harmony for Hope is such a beautiful opportunity for us to support the learning of 75 students in Thailand." Caskey emphasized that the anniversary was not only a time to reflect but also to invest in the future of others
Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun, herself a parent of an ISB alumnus, praised the school's emphasis on social responsibility. "It teaches them to share, to contribute and to take part in activities that genuinely benefit society," she said, noting the concert's success in bringing together people to help those in need. ISB alumnus Bhurin Atsawapiriyasakul echoed these sentiments, highlighting the school's international community: "Being comfortable communicating across cultures, building professional relationships and collaborating with diverse teams have significantly helped me [in my career]."
Founded in 1951 to serve expatriate families during a period of economic growth in Thailand, ISB has long prioritized community engagement as a core value. Generations of students have been encouraged to give back, and this ethos remains central to the school's identity. The 75th anniversary celebration reinforced this tradition, focusing not just on past achievements but also on fostering opportunities for others
For Koh Samui's international community and expat families, ISB's commitment to supporting Thai students demonstrates the ongoing importance of inclusive education and social contribution in Thailand. The Harmony for Hope event highlights the positive impact that international schools can have beyond their own campuses, offering a model of community-driven support that resonates across the country
