The opening ceremony was attended by top government officials, including Minister of Tourism and Sports Surasak Phancharoenworakul, and highlighted the festival’s growing international profile
According to Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the event is designed to unite people from around the world in a unique celebration of Thai culture. “Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2026 is a celebration designed for everyone — across generations, regions and the world. It brings together the very best of Thai culture and contemporary festivity, reinforcing Songkran’s standing as a truly global festival,” she said. The festival also celebrates UNESCO’s recognition of Songkran in Thailand as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, further boosting Thailand’s reputation as a festival destination
Festival highlights include the Maha Songkran World Event parade, featuring Miss World 2025, Opal Suchata Chuangsri, as this year’s Songkran deity, Nang Raksasdevi. The 'Songkran 5 Regions' zone showcases the diversity of Thai traditions with live performances, local product exhibitions, and interactive temple fair experiences such as sand pagoda building and Buddha image bathing. With over 100 stalls offering Thai cuisine and goods, and dedicated areas for children and the elderly, the event aims to be accessible for all ages
Nightly entertainment features leading Thai artists—including Bodyslam, Tilly Birds, Ink Waruntorn, and Joey Boy—performing on the main stage, while the EDM stage and water play zones keep the energy high with sets from top DJs.
