Phuket is gearing up for the Phuket Trail 2026, a cross-country trail running event scheduled for September 12-13. This island stage is part of the Southern Thailand Trail Series 2026 and will welcome more than 1,000 participants, ranging from experienced trail runners to newcomers eager to explore the rugged terrain. Despite some categories being labeled "light," the courses remain demanding due to the hilly landscape and the unpredictable rainy season weather.
The routes for this year's Phuket Trail are set around the Bang Nieu Dam area in Srisunthorn, within the natural massif called Khao Kamala. Access is only from the small settlement of Manik, adding a sense of adventure to the event. Distances vary widely from a 7 km Fun Trail, which fills up fastest, to ultra distances like 100 km, 75 km, and others, catering to all levels of trail enthusiasts.
Phuket Trail 2026 is the fourth event in the Southern Thailand Trail Series, which started in June in Phang Nga and continued through Krabi and other provinces. After Phuket, the series concludes with the Samui Trail in Surat Thani in November. The event highlights the vibrant outdoor culture in southern Thailand, bringing together locals and visitors to experience the island's natural beauty and challenging terrain.
