Dark Queen

Pigments and the purple phenotype

Dark Queen is an indica-dominant hybrid best known for its dramatic deep-purple, almost black colouration at harvest. The colour comes from anthocyanins — natural plant pigments whose synthesis is triggered by cool night temperatures. The colder the nights in the final weeks of flowering, the more intense the purple hue.

Terpene profile and morphology

Dense, resin-coated flowers. Dominant terpenes: myrcene and caryophyllene, with notes of lavender and wild berry. Aroma — earthy, spicy, sweet berry. Compact, broad-leafed bushes typical of indica genetics.

Effect

Potent body relaxation with a sensation of warmth and weight. Suited to evening use; an initial euphoria gradually gives way to deep, heavy relaxation. THC in the 18–22% range.

In the botanical garden

Dark Queen vividly demonstrates how genetically predetermined biochemical pathways — in this case anthocyanin synthesis — make each plant a living work of art. It is one of the most visually striking specimens in our cannabis collection. See also our other indica-dominant cultivars for comparison.
