Cannabis-Infused Tea Shown to Boost Happiness and Sleep in Thai Study
A Thai university study found that drinking marijuana-infused tea before bed significantly boosts happiness and improves sleep quality, with the highest benefits seen in participants consuming the strongest tea
Key Points
- 1Researchers in Thailand tested cannabis-infused tea on 30 volunteers at three dosage levels
- 2Participants drinking 7% cannabis tea reported the greatest increase in happiness and improved sleep
- 3No side effects were reported among any of the study groups
- 4Researchers suggested further studies to determine the long-term safety and isolate cannabis's specific effects
A new study from Rajamangala University of Technology Isan in Thailand reveals that drinking marijuana-infused tea before bedtime can significantly improve happiness and sleep quality. The research, published in the Journal of Health Science and Medical Research, involved 30 volunteers who consumed cannabis tea with varying concentrations—3, 5, or 7 percent cannabis by weight—for one week. Participants drank the tea 30 minutes before bed and were assessed through questionnaires and follow-up interviews
The study found clear benefits for those who consumed higher concentrations of cannabis in their tea. According to the researchers, “The results demonstrated a statistically significant increase in happiness levels between pre-experimental and post-experimental groups, indicating that cannabis-infused tea had a positive effect on participants’ well-being.” Notably, the group drinking the 7 percent infusion reported the highest happiness scores, with noted improvements in life satisfaction, self-esteem, emotional regulation, and family security
Sleep quality also improved among participants in the 5 and 7 percent groups, with no reported side effects. The authors concluded, “Cannabis-infused tea enhanced the state of happiness without reported side effects. Therefore, this prototype tea could be consumed at the optimum dose to maintain health and well-being.” However, they acknowledged that other herbal ingredients in the tea, such as peppermint and stevia, might have contributed to the positive effects, suggesting further research is needed to isolate cannabis's specific impact
These findings contribute to a growing body of evidence supporting the mood and wellness benefits of cannabis products. Previous studies cited by Marijuana Moment have indicated that cannabis-infused beverages can reduce alcohol consumption and improve overall wellbeing, sleep, and pain levels. Additionally, surveys suggest that a majority of cannabis users report better sleep, and medical marijuana has been linked to reduced reliance on prescription medications
OG Lab notes that this research highlights the potential for cannabis-infused beverages to enhance daily wellness routines, especially for those seeking natural ways to boost happiness and sleep. As interest in functional and therapeutic cannabis products rises, such studies may encourage further innovation and regulatory attention in the sector
