Chanda Macias Expands Global Access to Medical Cannabis Through Advocacy and Innovation

Chanda Macias, CEO of the National Holistic Healing Center in Washington, D.C., is leveraging her extensive background in healthcare and business to champion global access to medical cannabis. With more than 25 years of experience spanning cancer research, education, and entrepreneurship, Macias has built a reputation as a resilient leader dedicated to breaking barriers in the cannabis industry. Her journey, which began with a focus on aggressive cancers affecting underserved communities, has evolved into a mission to provide cannabis-based medicine to patients worldwide

Macias' early ambitions in medical research were stymied by federal restrictions on cannabis studies in the United States, but this obstacle only fueled her determination. "My quest started in the United States, but global legalization or global access will help us all," Macias explained. She later earned an MBA in supply chain management and transitioned into the cannabis sector in 2013, motivated by a desire to improve the quality of life for patients through alternative therapies

Today, Macias oversees operations not only in the U.S. but also abroad, serving as managing director of Deutschland Holistic GmbH in Germany and expanding her reach to Louisiana, where she partnered with Southern University to launch CBD medical products. Her commitment to compliance is evident in her adherence to stringent European Union Good Distribution Practice standards, ensuring safe and effective product delivery. "Providing medicine to patients who need it – that’s my reason for being in this industry," she said, emphasizing the personal impact of her work

Advocacy and education are central to Macias' approach, particularly in advancing opportunities for marginalized communities. She has actively lobbied for cannabis decriminalization, employment protections, and expanded access, and her influence has reached as far as the White House. As a mother of three children with special needs, Macias has witnessed firsthand the therapeutic benefits of cannabis, stating, "All of them have used cannabis to recover – I know that cannabis works." She also encourages historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) to engage in cannabis research and education, believing it can transform Black communities

Macias' leadership has garnered significant recognition, including being named Woman of the Year at the Empowering Women in Cannabis reception. Her work continues to inspire a new generation of cannabis professionals and advocates, as she urges educational institutions to prepare young people for careers in the field. "I encourage more HBCUs the education of the cannabis industry, participate in legal research and help their communities with access to this type of medicine," Macias said, underlining her commitment to social impact
