Thailand and China have taken a significant step toward deepening tourism ties with the signing of a Letter of Intent between the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Sanya Tourism Board. The agreement, finalized on 31 March 2026 at the China Cultural Centre in Bangkok, sets the stage for a long-term partnership focused on enhancing travel between Thailand and Sanya, one of China’s top international beach destinations
The Letter of Intent was signed by Mrs. Sirigesanong Trirattanasongpol, TAT Executive Director for the East Asia Region, and Ms. Nan Ma, Deputy Director General of the Sanya Tourism Board. According to TAT News, the collaboration will center on promoting two-way tourism, developing new travel products and routes, and leveraging emerging media platforms to reach new audiences. Both sides aim to facilitate more seamless travel experiences and increase visitor flows through coordinated marketing efforts and influencer exchanges
The initiative further underscores Thailand’s commitment to sustainable tourism and high-quality travel experiences. Under the “Amazing Thailand, The Journey Your Heart Leads” concept and the “Trusted Thailand” initiative, TAT continues to prioritize safety, quality, and traveler confidence. "This agreement reinforces TAT’s commitment to advancing sustainable growth through two-way tourism, strengthening international partnerships, and supporting deeper people-to-people connections by building awareness and inspiring travel between Thailand and Sanya, People’s Republic of China," the agency stated
From the OG Lab newsroom perspective, this new partnership reflects a broader trend of regional tourism boards joining forces to recover and grow in the post-pandemic era. For residents and expats on Koh Samui, enhanced connectivity and shared promotional campaigns could open fresh opportunities for travel, cultural exchange, and economic revitalization across Asia’s favorite beach destinations
