Thailand has taken a major step toward promoting sustainable travel with the launch of the Amazing Green Experience in Thailand project, which recently brought together international buyers, media, and local tourism operators in Krabi. Organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the event focused on strengthening the country's reputation as a leading destination for responsible tourism by connecting overseas partners with Southern Thai businesses committed to sustainability
According to Patsee Permvongsenee, TAT Executive Director for ASEAN, South Asia, and South Pacific region, the initiative is central to TAT’s mission. "Amazing Green Experience in Thailand reflects TAT’s commitment to strengthening Thailand’s position as a responsible tourism destination. By connecting international travel trade partners and media with local operators, we are creating practical opportunities for sustainable tourism products to reach global markets," she said
The event at Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort attracted 22 tourism operators from Krabi, Phang-nga, and Surat Thani, including winners of the Thailand Tourism Awards 2025 and businesses rated by TAT STAR. Nineteen overseas trade partners from countries such as India, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Australia participated, alongside 16 media representatives, content creators, and influencers. The programme featured briefings, B2B sessions, and a networking lunch designed to foster business matching and expand international sales channels for sustainable travel products
Participants also took part in a familiarisation tour running from 6–13 May, visiting local communities and eco-friendly initiatives across Krabi, Phang-nga, Surat Thani, and Phuket. Highlights included experiences such as the Ban Nai Nang Tourism Community, Mount to Mount Homestead & Garden, and Wareerak Hot Spring and Wellness, all reflecting Thailand’s growing portfolio of responsible travel offerings. Several of these experiences have received recognition through national tourism awards and sustainability programmes
From the OG Lab perspective, this initiative demonstrates Thailand’s proactive approach in aligning its tourism sector with global sustainability trends while delivering tangible benefits to local communities. With Koh Samui and its neighboring provinces at the forefront of this movement, travelers and expats can expect expanded opportunities for authentic, eco-conscious experiences across southern Thailand. As responsible tourism gains traction, such collaborative events set a benchmark for the region’s future travel landscape
