Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to shorten the visa-free entry period for some visitors, but the new rules have yet to be finalized into law. Currently, citizens of Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan can still enter Thailand without a visa for 30 days. Belarusian and Azerbaijani travelers are eligible for a 15-day visa on arrival.
The possibility of extending the initial 30-day visa-free stay by an additional 30 days remains likely, though not yet confirmed. This means tourists will generally experience minimal changes, as a total of 60 days in Thailand is ample for most visitors. Those planning longer stays can still apply for a 60-day tourist visa online with the option to extend for another 30 days.
The new visa rules will only come into effect at least 15 days after their official publication in the Royal Gazette, which means no changes are expected before mid-June. Until then, immigration officers will continue issuing 60-day entry stamps to eligible tourists. This grace period allows travelers and residents on Koh Samui to plan ahead without sudden disruptions.
